Standards

1.        Water resistance or 3ATM / 30m  = accidental splashes

2.       5Atm / 50m = swimming

3.       10ATM/100m & 15ATM/150m & 20ATM/ 200  = swimming, snorkelling water sports

notes:

·         All watches 50m – 200m will be tested for water resistance unless specifically stated that this service is not required

·          We reserve the right not to seal a watch that is worn or unsuitable in our opinion for water sealing or where we are not able to obtain the correct seals from manufactures such as Casio, Nike, Timex and others

·          Only watches marked divers or 1000m are suitable for Scuba diving or deep diving but we do not undertake professional divers watches for sealing ( a life may depend upon it) or watches marked greater than 200m

·          Watches marked less than 50m or just ‘water resistant’ we are not able to seal.

·          The term ‘waterproof’ is no longer a recognised standard and must be treated as only water resistant

·          We only use new batteries from well know manufactures such as Ray O Vac, Renata and Ucar and stock has a high rotation so the battery life will be within manufacturers specification for the watch.

·          Guarantee does not cover the watch movement for reliability and a poor conditioned movement will increase battery drain as will excessive use of light features.

·          Certain watch brands cannot be repaired other than battery fitting such as Swatch, Casio, Timex

Below is a guide to water-resistance values and their intended use.

*Water-Proof*

Old terminology which covered all types of Water-Resistance. Most timepieces bearing this claimant are well past their original efficiency and should, at best be treated as *Water Resistant*

*Water Resistant*

Timepieces marked *Water Resistant* by ISO 2281 have passed the following test only; 30 minutes under water at a depth of 1 m (3ft) followed by 90 seconds under a pressure corresponding to 20m (66ft) . *3 ATM* and *Water Resistant* are NOT suitable for swimming.

Usage

The crown must be in the normal or *Screw Down* position and must NOT be worked when wet. Dry with a soft cloth after immersion. Keep in mind that water-resistance is not a permanent condition. For example, the gaskets that are fitted in the crown, case back and glass will deteriorate with time and should be inspected and changed periodically. It is good practice to change the battery hatch or case back seals whenever the battery cell is changed.

*Misting* or *Fogging*

A drastic reduction of temperature turns moisture inside the watch to dew, which adheres to the inside surface of the case, the glass may become cloudy. The cloudy glass, will generally became clear in a few minuets, it is recommended to check the water resistant qualities of the timepiece. If the glass remains cloudy, urgent work is required.
